Caring Quilters

One way Holliston serves the community is by creating small quilts for children in crisis. These children are victims of domestic abuse and/or neglect. They need to be assured people care for them and a snuggly blanket is something a child can hold and feel. The quilt tops are made by individuals, usually at home, but assembled by a group of people in an old-fashioned “sewing bee”. The group meets most months on the third Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Willing Workers room, which is named for a group of women who sewed for the needy in the 1920s and 1930s. Beverages are provided to go with your brown bag lunch.

Occasionally, the group meets in the evening to assemble tops and backs. The time for these early evening sewing bees is from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This later time is to accommodate persons who are unable to make the daytime meetings, but who want to participate in the fellowship and to contribute to the sewing projects.

One way to participate in this activity is by donating materials, either fabric or batting. All materials should be 100% cotton. If you would like to donate any items, or are interested in participating in this group, please telephone or email the church attention “Quilters”. You will then be contacted about the next meeting and/or ways to help.
